Program Highlights in 2017
Advocacy.  AIA Illinois had another successful Prairie Grassroots in 2017 advocating the value of Architecture to our legislators in Springfield.  We successfully blocked the passing of the interior design act until more favorable language could be added; put our resources behind supporting the River Edge Tax Credit (SB 1642/HB 2754) and the Green Construction Bill (HB 3541).

In addition, 2017 Board President Mark Schwamel would like to thank you, as members, for your financial support moving forward as we are finally able to bolster our Illinois Political Action Committee (IPAC). This enables our AIA lobby team and our Members to be much more effective and influential on architecture legislation for all our benefit.
Leadership.  The AIA Illinois Board developed the first annual ‘AIASpire’ Student Leadership program.  This two-day event focused on professional development for AIAS student leaders from our Illinois Architecture Schools.  The program was designed to introduce the students to architecture career paths, experience life working in an architecture firm, learn how to grow a successful architecture career and so much more.

Also this year, the AIA Illinois Board is also very proud to have made so many great partnerships through both volunteer efforts and financial support to great organizations such as AEC Cares, INOMA Project Pipeline, National Council of State Legislatures, Downtown Springfield Inc., Illinois Old State Capital Foundation, Pecha Kucha, Frank Lloyd Wright B. Harley Bradley House, Chicago Women in Architecture and so many more!
Outreach.  Once again, AIA Illinois' Honor Awards program received an incredible plethora of amazing design projects and service award submissions.  It was with great pleasure we awarded Gaines Hall, FAIA, our Gold Medal this year, the highest honor bestowed on an Architect from our organization, for his accomplishments in the discipline and profession of architecture.  We congratulate all of our Honor Award winners for their submissions and continued support to the communities they serve.
