AIA Illinois Foundation was created to advance the cause of excellence in architecture by serving as a link between the public and the architectural profession; by advocating a creative and responsible public stewardship of architectural heritage; by sponsoring alliances between the public and the architects of Illinois; and by fostering development of a vision of livable communities through design excellence.

The purposes of the Foundation are:

To educate architectural professionals and the general public with respect to building design, construction and community impact.

To advance the standards of architectural education, training and practice as they relate to these factors.

To build the support and resources to advance these purposes.

The Foundation accomplishes its mission in several ways:

Incentive matching grants to public awareness programs, public exhibits, seminars and presentations advancing understanding of excellence in architecture and the built environment, especially in the areas of historic preservation, environmental sustainability, livable communities, and housing accessibility and affordability.

Educational grants for development of or implementation of K-12 educational programs to advance the importance of design in the built environment and architectural awareness.

Sponsors Community Design Assistance Teams with participating communities to address critical issues of growth and decline, development and redevelopment, preservation and local planning.

The Foundation may consider support to important mission related activities such as public design competitions or design charettes on a case-by-case basis. The Foundation does not currently support scholarships, individual research or fellowships.

AIA Illinois Foundation builds institutional associations to support its mission. The Foundation seeks funding partners to increase the extent of opportunities available throughout the state, including special events and projects that extend the Foundation's mission.

To continue and expand these important programs, the AIA Illinois Foundation relies on the financial support of many supporters and friends. Your tax-deductible contribution allows us to extend this work into the communities throughout Illinois where assistance from the foundation can make a difference in the built environment.
