Presidents Message

2018 president
Kimberly A. Kurtenbach, AIA

I’m extremely honored to serve as your 2018 president while we celebrate the bicentennial of Illinois statehood. Over the past 200 years, architects and architecture have been a large part of the Illinois story and this is just the beginning. Throughout this year, we will celebrate 200 great places in Illinois and the architects that made them possible.  My intent is to elevate public awareness of our profession and make known the value of what an architect brings to the table in all we do.

Through AIA Illinois, you support three pillars of active engagement: advocacy as the champion of the architecture profession; leadership that aspires to change organizational culture and shape a preferred future; and outreach which celebrates and supports more vibrant, equitable communities.

I encourage you to contact me if you would like to help make these goals a reality during this year. The American Institute of Architects has been around for the last 160 years. We build on the foundation of every citizen architect who came before us. But we always need new leaders to keep rising.
